Bug Description

1) Ubuntu release: Yakkety Yak
2) v1.6.2-0ubuntu3
3) Expected more recent version of synergy, e.g. v1.8.x
4) Got an outdated version of v1.6.2 which doesn't support SSL connections

I asked about upgrading the version of Synergy and was told to create a bug:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/synergy/+question/441860/+confirm?answer_id=0

The package for synergy is currently 1.6.2, but the current version of synergy is 1.8.6. Synergy 1.7 introduced SSL connections between client and server, greatly enhancing the security of Synergy. Users running v1.7+ on their other OSes must turn off SSL in order to work with version 1.6.2.

The introduction of SSL introduced in v1.7 a lot of problems that have been addressed in v1.8.

Here are the most relevant Bug/Security/Enhancements between v1.6.2 and v1.8.6-stable.
=============
Bug #5680 - Server crashes when disconnecting SSL clients
Bug #4740 - Linux client crashes with "Assertion '!m_open' failed"
Bug #4879 - Memory leak caused by IpcReader
Bug #5502 - Copy and paste from server to client doesn't work
Bug #5087 - Linux client fails to start due to invalid cursor size
Bug #4735 - Clipboard doesn't work from client to server
Bug #4353 - Large clipboard causes crash
Bug #4565 - Incorrect plugin downloads on Debian and Mint
Enhancement #4313 - SSL encrypted secure connection

Correction, the package is stuck in proposed currently because it fails two tests on powerpc and s390x.

Might have been fixed by an earlier version, but synergy 1.8.7-stable+dfsg.1-2 built successfully on all architectures and is available on Ubuntu 17.04
