Bug Description

This is new to Ubuntu 16.10 (I have not experienced this earlier including in 16.04).

I have set nautilus to show desktop icons (network, home)

I open the home folder (it could be any file folder) and zoom in so that the icon size increases. Then I do show desktop and the desktop icons have zoomed as well!!

THen I go to the home folder and zoom out. Desktop icons zoom out as well.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

Same problem, but I wan unable to reduce icons size since I've closed window. When I've opened it again icons were small, but desktop icons stay large. The only way I've found was dconf-editor:
org -> gnome -> nautilus -> icon view -> default zoom level

DimkaS that sounds like a separate issue, if you can find the issue on Ubuntu 17.10 or 18.04 as well please could you report that as a bug with `ubuntu-bug nautilus`? Thanks :)

From Files 3.28 onwards (3.28 is the latest upstream version and 3.30 will presumably be used in Ubuntu 18.10), desktop icons are handled by a GNOME extension and not by Files. I have thus filed this bug against the GNOME Extension, it is up to Ubuntu developers, not upstream, to fix the bug (if they feel the behavior is not intended) in Files 3.26 and earlier on earlier Ubuntu releases. They may want to wait first to see what how GNOME treats the issue with the Extension, though :)
