Bug Description

Hi,

I'm VERY new to Ubuntu (still don't understand where my applications folder is!!!), but I'm desperate to learn and use ddrescue to try and perform some DR on a very important HDD.

Anyway to the question in hand.

I've installed ddRescue GUI and have started off the process and before it starts an alert pops up and says ...

We didn't get ddrescue's initial status! This probably means ddrescue aborted immediately ...

and underneath that ...

ddrescue:invalid option -f

Is that to do with "fill given type areas"?

And what do I need to do to fix it so I can get my wife's photos of our children back.

Thanks very much for what looks like an awesome program.

Hi,

Sorry this took me a while to have a proper look at it. I can't seem to reproduce your bug, even though I'm using the same OS and settings as you, could you try running it again and see if it was just a one-off glitch for me please?

Thanks,
Hamish

There's been a few new versions now, do you know if this still occurs in 1.7.1?

Thanks,
Hamish

Seeing as we've had major changes in the new version 2.0.0, I'm going to go ahead and mark this as invalid. If this crops up again I'll have another look.

Hi, thanks for letting me know.

After running DDRescue-GUI and experiencing this problem, could you please save and attach the log file? That should help me find the cause.

I spoke to Antonio about this (the author of GNU ddrescue) to see if he had any ideas about causes.

He noted that the -f option was only added in ddrescue 1.13. Any chance you might have downgraded ddrescue to version 1.12 or older?

Marking as invalid as it has been inactive for so long.
