Bug Description

Since OTA 13 I am not able to install ANY app from the ubuntu store on my BQ E5.
I do click on install, then I am asked to confirm access to my UbuntuOne account and thats it, back to the install page.
I tried several apps with the same negative result.
I do have over 4GB free space, so that should not cause trouble.
The phone has been rebooted a couple of times i.e. to upgrade to OTA 14.

The description of this issue sounds like a bug in the online-accounts side, as there should never be any dialog asking for confirmation to access the U1 account from the Ubuntu Store scope. There also haven't been any changes in the scope which would cause this.

affects: unity-scope-click (Ubuntu) → ubuntu-system-settings-online-accounts (Ubuntu)

Hi Daniel, I need to ask you some more information, in order to understand what's going on:

1) Can you please take a screenshot (press both volume UP and volume DOWN buttons at the same time) of the page asking you to confirm access to your account, and attach it to this bug report?

2) Please go to System Settings -> Online Accounts; do you have an UbuntuOne account there?

3) If not, please try creating the account from there. Then head back to the ubuntu store, and try installing an app from there. Does it succeed? And if you go back to the System Settings, is the UbuntuOne account still there?

Hi Alberto,

thanks for taking time to look into this matter.

1) Done, see attached screenshots, I took them with my original language settings in german and changed to english and took them again
Regardless of the app I am trying to install the box at the top is always empty.
I did also try to press "deny" (could have been the buttons mixed up) without success.

2) Yes I do have an UbuntuOne account set up and registered within system settings
I did that in order to get app updates after OTA 13. Ohterwise I had to enter the credentials every time I was checking for updates. That was a bit anoying ;-) .

3) That was already done before trying to install apps, see 2).

If you need anything else please let me know, I will try to provide wit.

Thanks Daniel! This indeed looks like a bug on our side. But I'm surprised that no one else has reported it, so I suspect that somehow your device got itself into a wrong state.

I need to ask you one more information, and this might be a bit harder to collect. I'd like you to use "phablet-shell" from a connected desktop (please tell me, if you are not familiar with this tool) and run this command:

OAU_LOGGING_LEVEL=2 OAU_DAEMON_TIMEOUT=9999 online-accounts-service > oa.log

Then please try to reproduce the bug again (just once), and finally attach the "oa.log" file to this bug report.

Hi Alberto,

it took some playing around, because I have never before used the phablet-shell. But I did get something out of it in the end. ;-) I had to copy/paste the content of the terminal, because I could not find the oa.log file. Well, I did just unplug the phone to stop logging not knowing any better. Hopefully there is still something useful in there for you!

I did not get past the point where I had to press "install" in the store. When I hit that button nothing happend on the phone but text appeared in the terminal (as attached).
When pressing "install" again, it would only give me that error message wich you can see at the bottom three times.

Do you think it might be worth trying to delete the UbuntuOne account?

I do hope that does help at least a little bit.
If you need anything else please let me know.
I will try my best and I do not mind learning something new. :-)

Hi Daniel, thanks for the logs, it's exactly what I needed. I now need some more info, let's hope it's the last bit.

From a phablet-shell console, can you please run these two commands:

    account-console list

Then look at the number next to the ubuntuone account, and type

    account-console show <number>

and attach the output to this bug. Hopefully I won't bother you with more requests. :-)

Hi Alberto,

here you are... (see attachtment)
Hope that helps.

Don't worry about asking me for more information if you do need anything else.

Thanks Daniel! For some reason the "ubuntuone" service is disabled in the account. This is very weird, it should never happen. Did you ever try installing some siloes from bileto.ubuntu.com or made your system writable and installed something with apt or dpkg on the phone?
If you have no idea what I'm talking about, nevermind, then you probably didn't do any of that :-)

Please try deleting your account, and let me know if the bug reappears.

Hi Alberto,

I did delete my UbunuOne account and tried to install two random apps.
The good news is - yep - they are installed! :-)
The bad news is, they do not show up on the home sceen. :-(
Please see the attached screenshots.
In the store the apps are marked as installed, but, being sorted in alphabetical order, they are not shown on the home screen.

For the reason why my account was disabled I now do have an explanation.
On the account settings I had disabled the access to the account for "com.canonical.payui_payui".
I did this to avoid accidently installing apps that do cost money.
With the newly created account, after deleting the other one, it was enabled. Installing apps worked. With access of payui disabled you can not install apps any more.
Sorry about that. No bug, just me... :-(

Thanks Daniel for explaining the situation! One last question, after which we can then close this bug: can you still see the "com.canonical.payui_payui" application under the ubuntuone account? It should not be there, and indeed I don't see it in my phone or in my tablet.

Please report the missing apps as a separate bug -- I recommend filing it here:

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+filebug

and maybe also add unity8-dash as an affected component; it might not be the correct one, but the guys should know where to move it to.

Yes, "com.canonical.payui_payui" is still visible under settings.
I have attached a partial screenshot.

Maybe something is not as it is supposed to be and I will have to take the time for a clean reinstall of Ubuntu Touch on my phone. Probabely something is wrong with my phone. So i might do that first instead of filing a new bug that is only a single phone problem. Thanks a lot anyway for your suggestion of where to file the bug. I am always a bit lost with that. I do find it difficult to choose the right place to file a bug if not one of the apps is concerned.

Thanks for your time and help.
Have a nice chrismas and a happy new year!
