Bug Description

I have no further information. I ensured all relevant libraries are installed. I used Soundconverter up until I upgraded my system to Mint 18 (Cinnamon).

Purged and reinstalled.

ben: [~] soundconverter --debug
SoundConverter 2.9.0-beta1
  using GTK version: 3.0
  using Gstreamer version: 1.8.2.0
  using 4 thread(s)
  using gio
  "faac" gstreamer element not found, disabling AAC output.
/usr/share/soundconverter/python/soundconverter/ui.py:1456: Warning: g_value_type_transformable: assertion 'G_TYPE_IS_VALUE (src_type)' failed
  builder.add_from_file(gladefile)

(python3:29933): Gtk-WARNING **: /build/gtk+3.0-6ZPWga/gtk+3.0-3.18.9/./gtk/gtkliststore.c:836: Unable to convert from (null) to gchararray

'faac' isn't missing - it's installed with all the other 'bad' gstreamer options with Mint's 'extra' codec packages (as with previous Mint 17 install which worked perfectly).

Is anyone able to throw a FLAC file at Soundconverter and get AAC out?

I noticed that there is advice on the 'Net to install gstreamer0.10-plugins-*, but in 17.10 we have gstreamer1.0-plugins-* instead.

Is this the reason they're not recognised by soundconverter, perhaps?

I am facing the same issue of @cot_al on Ubuntu 20.04
In GUI mode, it throws the error in the console but still works fine.
In batch mode, I can't convert something. It is unusable.

I have :
  id3mux gstreamer element not found
  faac gstreamer element not found
SoundConverter 3.0.2

Can you try to install the more recent SoundConverter 3.1.0 to see if it solves the issue ?

Do you have gst-plugins-bad installed?

Ah sorry, the original poster says they have. But hopefully the others have as well.

Check `gst-inspect-1.0 id3mux` and `gst-inspect-1.0 faac`. If those commands print "No such element or plugin" the problem is with gstreamer, not soundconverter.

There have been some significant changes, please try the latest git source https://github.com/kassoulet/soundconverter

In 20.04: $ gst-inspect-1.0 faac
No such element or plugin 'faac'
