Gimp 2.4.0 have no language files

Bug Description

Installing gimp 2.4.0 on Kubuntu 7.10 means you get no translation of the Gimp menu's. Someone have forgotten to install the language files in the repositories for this version of The Gimp. Also, compiling up Gimp version 2.4.1 breaks due to an gcc error (no executable output) for the standard installed gcc.

Thanks for your report, I have an Ubuntu installation in Spanish and the gimp is translated to my language, in which language are you seeing the problem? thanks.

I am using Norwegian as my native language. I only get up menu's in
English on the 2.4.0 version of The Gimp on Kubuntu 7.10. I can't find
the language files at all on the distro. In Kubuntu 7.04 I didn't have
this problem (another version of The Gimp).

Do you have language-pack-gnome-no-base installed?

I don't know. I have installed gimp by Adept manager, and added all I
meant was needed. I also was at the GREYCstoration homepage and loaded
that plug-in into gimp since the plug-in delivered with gimp is a little
bit old. The language selected for Kubuntu is Norwegian, and that works
OK. I will check if there is no language-pack-gnome-no-base installed
and come back with what I find.

I have checked it. I have the language packages for KDE installed. Not
for GNOME. How should I know that? I thought that if gimp (or any other
program for that sake) depends on something special, as a special
language pack, it is supported.

If it works: Thank you! Else I come back.

Once more: Thank you! It works as it should, but at least should the
installer check that all necessary element were in place. I use KDE,
therefore Kubuntu, and install the packages I find interesting. I don't
think of that a gnome package need other libraries and language pack
than a kde package, that should be handled automatically. If I had been
happy and got the gimp 2.4.1 compiled I think I would have got
everything automatically?

closing the issue is not specific to gimp and something the package manager applications should try to solve rather
