Bug Description

Binary package hint: dolphin

1. Connect external USB HD formatted ntfs. Gutsy refuses to recognize
2. Manually create a mountpoint in /media and mount using -o force
3. In KDE, click on the Dolphin icon on the panel, click on storage media. Storage media are displayed, not as drives, but as icons resembling pages.
4. Exit Dolphin. Click Dolphin. Click Home. Click storage media. Icons are properly displayed

5. Close Dolphin. Repeat from step 3, with same result

marked this bug as a duplicate due to it relating to the same problem people are having opening NTFS formated USB drives.

The error I was reporting is separate from the ntfs mounting problem, of which I was aware. The additional erroneous behavior I noticed is that the icons were displayed incorrectly in Dolphin after I manually mounted the ntfs partition, depending on whether Dolphin was asked to display the storage media or the home share first. That is, once the partition is successfully mounted, if the user asks Dolphin to display "storage media", the volumes are displayed as documents instead of volumes. If Dolphin is closed and reopened, and is asked to show Home, THEN show Storage Media, the storage media volumes are correctly displayed as volumes and not documents. The behavior seems to be repeatable, i.e. if Dolphin is then closed and reopened, and asked to display the storage media shares, it will show them again as documents.
