Bug Description

When working on Kubuntu I keep getting popup windows with the message:
'Display changed: lcd off'?

The problem seems to be in an not updated kmilo package for asus laptops.

Can you help me out with this one?

You can make the messages go away temporarily by editing
/usr/share/services/kded/kmilod.desktop and setting the following lines to false;

X-KDE-Kded-autoload=false
X-KDE-Kded-load-on-demand=false

Log out and back in or restart X to make the change stick.

After this change KDE doesn't remember session (last opened windows and
programs). it's not good usable trick. :(

Kmilo isn't included (standard) in Breezy Badger anymore. So normally the
problem of KDE don't rembering the last session, shouldn't exist.

I can confirm this bug!

Random messages pop up saying "Display changed: LCD off" or "Display changed: LCD on ".

Furthermore, /var/log/syslog is full of following messages:

Asus ACPI: Error reading brightness
Asus ACPI: Error reading LCD status

The messages popup so frequently that the laptop is not usable at all. This is a showstopper as a common user would not be able to turn the culprit off and would give up soon on Kubuntu.

Kmilo seems to be the causing factor and can be turned off as described here:

This bug is also know in the KDE bug repository (no 102374):

Also the ubuntuforum knows about it:

My Hardware:
Laptop ASUS T9400

My Software:
Stock Kubuntu Breezy (KDE 3.4.3). Ugraded from Kubuntu hoary.

The only solution that worked for me is: apt-get remove kmilo.
It think the advantage of a useable notebook not remebering the last session over an unuseable notebook that does remember the last session is quite clear :)
