This package system is broken:
Check if you are using third party repositories. If so disable them, since they are a common source of problems.
Furthermore run the following command in a Terminal: apt-get install -f

"when I run apt-get install -f" I get the following error:

Hi - you'll have to run `sudo apt-get install -f`. Note that the "sudo" command is prepended to what you were already trying.
