Bug Description

Sorting in pantheon-files is weird.

Sorting folders first doesn't make a lot of sense to me. All items should be sorted alphabetically, regardless of their type, so I don't have to think if I'm looking for a file or a folder. While I understand that other people might find that this doesn't make sense and shouldn't be the default, there should be a setting to change this behavior (as hidden as you want, even in system settings). The filesystem is an important part of any OS and you should be able to customize it to some extent.

Even sorting of folders is weird, though. Hidden folders are shown last, while special characters should appear first (including the dot, ".").

Between sorting folders first and folders not being sorted correctly when sorting alphabetically, using pantheon-files is very confusing.

This is really two bugs, one of which is a duplicate of 1533882. Re the issue of sort order within category: I confirm that Files differs from e.g. Thunar in this regard but as far as I recall, it has been like that for some time so may be deliberate. Needs UX team input.
