Bug Description

There is no Gstreamer plugin to handle mms:// URIs in Ubuntu, even though totem
maintainer RBultje stated that there is one (gnome bugzilla #301564).

libmms is now approved for main, ready to be promoted once this patch is applied

Hi,

(I'm a Debian maintainer for GStreamer packages and I would like to add support
for libmms to the GStreamer packages, but this requires a libmms package in
Debian first.)

Did someone do some research on patents in libmms? Are "inclusion in main"
criterias in Ubuntu compatible with an inclusion in Debian?

Is anyone interested in handling libmms for Debian?

While we're at it, the debian/copyright mixes GPL and LGPL (upstream's
sourceforge page says LGPL) and has typos (before the URL and in "ree Software
Foundation").

Bye,

Here is the page for libmms: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MainInclusionReportlibmms

Martin, does anybody do research on patents before accepting packages?

I approved the report yesterday. :-)

I did a short googling about it and did not find anything. However, MMS is
relatively shallow, it's just a transport protocol. But IANAL and today I
wouldn't be surprised if even an agreement how to specify an URL in a file would
be patented... :-(

  * Package the cdio plugin again [debian/build-deps, debian/build-deps.in,
    debian/control, debian/gstreamer-cdio.install, debian/rules]
  * Package the libmms plugin, thanks Søren Hansen <email address hidden> for
    sending a patch for this [debian/build-deps, debian/build-deps.in,
    debian/control, debian/gstreamer-mms.install, debian/rules]

  * Make a gtk package for libgstgdkpixbuf

FYI, I've checked the upstream sources and there is a mixture of GPL and LGPL
code and headers, so that's effectively GPL.
