Bug Description

In Debian sarge, HAL's "Devices" tree includes a part that looks like this:

PCI1450
PCI1450
  Unknown Device

When I click on "Unknown Device" I see this information in the right panel:

                        Vendor: Unknown
                        Device: Unknown
                        Status: Status
                      Bus type: PCMCIA
                   Device type: net.80211
                  Capabilities: net.80211 net

This is information about my PCMCIA network adapter.

On Hoary, the "Unknown Device" does not appear in the list.

As a result, applications that consult HAL to find out about network
devices don't work for me on Hoary.

I still see only

    PCI1450
    PCI1450

without anything listed under either of these, in contrast with Debian sarge.

I checked today and found that this bug has been fixed. In HAL's "Devices" list
I now see

PCI1450
PCI1450
  Unknown Device
    Networking Interface

Selecting the "Unknown Device" causes this information to be displayed in the
adjacent window under the "Device" tab:

Vendor: Unknown
Device: Unknown
Status: Status
Bus type: PCMCIA
Device Type: Unknown
Capabilities: Unknown

Selecting the "Networking Interface" causes this information to be displayed in
the adjacent window under the "Device" tab:

Vendor: Unknown
Device: Unknown
Status: Status
Bus type: Unknown
Device Type: net.80211
Capabilities: ['net', 'net.80211']

Thus HAL is aware now that I have a Cisco Aironet 352 PCMCIA card installed.

$ dpkg -l hal libc6 libdbus-1-1 libdbus-glib-1-1 libglib2.0-0 libhal1 udev dbus

This report can be closed.

I noticed one more nit, though. The word 'type' is capitalized after 'Device'
and not capitalized after 'Bus'.
