Connecting to enterprise networks from notification area doesn't work

Clicking on an unknown wifi network (not previously connected to) with enterprise security (see: http://www.ucs.cam.ac.uk/wireless/eduroam/localusers) from the notification area wifi dropdown just results in the circle being highlighted, hanging, and no tick, connection or details prompt. However connecting from within system settings works fine.
