Bug Description

I'm using a Canon Lide 60 scanner in combination with Simple Scan 3.20.0 on Xubuntu 16.04 .
Appearently someone mixed up the direction of the sliders, i.e. if you want to scan darker you now have to move the slider towards "brighter". Same with "contrast".
For "quality" the best setting is the center position. Moving the slider either left or right reduces quality.

Jens Schröder, could you please take a screenshot of the sliders you are referring to and attach here uncompressed/untarred?

I can confirm this bug on 16.04 with Lide 60.

Is it a bug in SANE or simple-scan?

Can anyone with another scanner (driver) quickly add if they are *not* experiencing this?

Since I cannot reproduce this with xsane's brightness/contrast controls, I would guess the problem is in simple-scan..

Can someone who can reproduce this try a scan with the default settings, then the settings set to the maximum, and the set to minimum?

After this attach ~/.cache/simple-scan/simple-scan.log (or run simple --debug from the command line). This will show the values that simple-scan chose to send.

What the SANE driver is telling us (from the log attached to this report):

[+15,55s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:885: sane_get_option_descriptor (25)
[+15,55s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:735: Option 25: name='contrast' title='Contrast' type=int size=4 min=-100, max=100, quant=1 cap=soft-select,soft-detect
[+15,55s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:738: Description: Controls the contrast of the acquired image.
...

i.e. there are two settings that go from -100 to 100. Simple scan is assuming -100 is darkest/lowest contrast and 100 is brightest/highest contrast.
