Please run this command in your terminal:

sudo apt install gnome-control-center-data/yakkety

In the future, please ppa-purge all of your PPAs before upgrading to a new Ubuntu release.

This was in the attached Dependencies.txt:
gnome-control-center 1:3.20.1-2ubuntu1
gnome-control-center-data 1:3.20.1-2ubuntu2~xenial1 [origin: unknown]

I should upload a newer version of gnome-control-center to yakkety anyway.

Changed in gnome-control-center (Ubuntu):

Ran sudo apt install gnome-control-center-data/yakkety as directed.

Still "printers" is crashing.

Ok, when gnome-control-center crashes, there should be a popup window asking you if you'd like to report a bug. Could you please do that so that crash information is submitted?

I am going to go ahead and close this bug then.

Changed in gnome-control-center (Ubuntu):
status: Triaged → Invalid

Okay, from the top: I open gnome control center. And when I hit "printers," control center crashes.

As to popup, there is none.

Jeremy, how is that "invalid"? It is still broken.

Jeremy Bícha (jbicha) wrote :

It's invalid because I'm having you file a new bug instead because there is not enough information here for us to diagnose the crash.

Do you see anything in /var/crash/ related to gnome-control-center?

From a terminal, you can run apport-cli /var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome-control-center.1000.crash (or whatever the file is named) to report the crash bug.

Arrrrgh. Says "This is not an official Ubuntu package. Please remove any third party package and try again."

See attached.

Could it be the Brother Printer installed?

Reinstalled and now again crashes.

Seems to be related to #1565170 cups-pk-helper-mechanism crashed with signal 5 in g_variant_new_va()

I fixed the .crash and filed it for you as bug 1629375.

Let's move the conversation there.

What exactly did you uninstall that enabled the Printers panel to work and what did you install that made it start crashing again?
