Bug Description

After a new installation of xubuntu i have some minor problems.
Linux-restricted-modules-2.2.20-15-generic has a problem and needs to reinstall.
I thought that i could repair with package manager but there a got the following message,

E: Läsfel - read (5 Input/output error)
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

This is the first time i try a linux dist so im not shore of what to do now.

Rgds / Kent

Edit; i started xubuntu with recovery mod and now i dont get the linux r modul failure.
I still cant use the update programs .

Doesn't look like a ubiquity bug; moving to Ubuntu apt. (However, "Input/output error" is usually a hardware problem, so the real fault may lie in your hard disk.)

Thanks for your bugreport.

I reassign to synaptic, this is what the error message displays.

Could you please try to open synaptic again and see if the problem is reproducable? the error looks like a memory or disk problem to me, so a fsck and a memory test would be good.

Thanks,
 Michael
