Bug Description

When switching in fullscreen mode in vlc using Ubuntu AMD64, the window doesn't cover the whole screen, but stays as a classic window with border.

Another Ubuntu AMD64 also reported the same problem.

Hi,

If it helps, I had this same problem but I managed to solve it by experimenting with the Preferences settings (accessed from the Settings menu --> Preferences).

In the left-hand column, expand the "Video" node and select "Output modules". Tick the "Advanced Options" checkbox in the bottom right corner. This allows you to choose a "Video output module" from a drop-down list.

Pick one that you think might work. Normally the "Default" option is selected - I don't know what that actually does.

Now expand the "Output modules" node in the left-hand column. You can now see several nodes: "XVideo", "X11", "OpenGL" etc. (for some strange reason, I find that "OpenGL" appears twice). Choose the one that corresponds to what you selected in the drop-down list (or just go through each of them in turn).

You should see a checkbox labelled "Alternate fullscreen method". Try ticking the box (I assume it's unticked in your case). That should work; it tells VLC to bypass your window manager when full-screening.

vlc appears to handle this properly via an alternate setting, so the "bug" is more likely in the window manager.
