Bug Description

I followed instructions on http://www.zedt.eu/tech/linux/enable-hibernation-xubuntu-16-04/ to enable hibernation.
pm-hibernate worked well.
The Hibernate option appeared in Xubuntu's power menu. I pressed that button. The screen became blank and Caps Lock became on, not responding.
I pressed the power button until the laptop stopped and started it. Xubuntu loaded as if it wasn't hibernated and I got this bug report option.

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.8 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

I tested hibernation with no prior kernel version.

Now I tested the upstream kernel (v4.8-rc6) and the bug exists there, too.
That kernel however caused strange things. The processor cores hit 100 % usage right after login. I opened a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T), started htop but the terminal became blank and another core hit 100%. This happened to the ps command and the xfce4-taskmanager. I could gain no information of what processes use 100%. Finally the whole system froze. I rebooted a few times so as to be able to test the hibernation. Once the system froze after typing the password on the login screen.
