Bug Description

Attempting to use a picture from the Pictures folder causes the desktop background to be black.

Steps I took to reproduce the bug:

1) Download a wallpaper from the Internet using Epiphany and save it to the Pictures folder
2) Open System Settings | Desktop
3) Change source dropdown from Backgrounds to Pictures
4) Click on an entry and the desktop goes black

I tried this more than once with different pictures with the same result.

Hello, I have the solution:

1) In ~/.local/share/ create a folder named "backgrounds" (no quotes)
2) Set the permissions on this folder to 600, or 644
3) Try again in the System setting, but now use the dropdown menu "Custom"

Blank screen again?

1) Try looking in the previus "backgrounds" folder if the files (automatic copies of the original images) have the 600 or 644 permission.
2) If have, but doesn't work, set the permissions to 700.

Blank screen agaaain?

try a reboot and tell me whats is the matter now.

Here this steps worked fine, but i had to rebbot my machine 1 time.

After that, i also created a script to run a slideshow with the images in the backgrounds folder.

That would not be a solution. That is a workaround. It does work, so thank you. :) I create a backgrounds folder in ~/.local/share and set it to 744. I pointed Desktop at it using the Custom option and that worked and I didn't even have to reboot.

The problem still remains, though, that the Pictures folder does not work. Considering that is one of the main options in the dropdown, this is something that needs fixed. With all of the care and attention-to-detail that the team have put into this, working around it isn't really an option.
