Bug Description

Elementary Loki, Oracle Java 1.8.101
Eclipse Neon - http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/technology/epp/downloads/release/neon/R/eclipse-jee-neon-R-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz

when i try to run the executable from the eclipse folder. The splash for eclipse shows up (good) and then all of a sudden system is almost dead. Mouse pointer movement is frame-by-frame (i7, 8GB RAM, HP Envy 15 Laptop), unable to open any other app.. in all cant do anything.

Repeatedly pressing Alt + F4, makes the system usable again. I am reporting it as eclipse neon, same build, works perfectly fine on Peppermint.

What is the kernel version Peppermint ships with? Can you install the same version on elementary OS and advise if it fixes the issue?

Surprisingly Kernel is same in both.
Its - 4.4.0-36 in both.
Please suggest. Thanks.

Some more info. Also, yesterday I downloaded Loki iso again. I reformatted (home and / partitions both) & reinstalled and tried again. At Workspace creation/selection dialog the system froze again. And I had to "hard" restart the system to use again. Please suggest.

In a way you may be right. However, the Kernel looks different. I will leave it to you. Thanks.

I see the same issue. I am able to recover using one of the ttys and killing the eclipse and java processes. But I am unable to use eclipse neon. Please let me know if you would like any logs or other data from my system.

I tried the suggested workaround in bug #1452185 but that didn't work for me either.
