Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

I use Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon with Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.8

In the quicksearch-bar, if you use Google as engine, it gives search suggestions as-you-type as real-time feedback.
Make so it does this when using Wikipedia too.

This is interesting. On my installation of an up-to-date hardy alpha 5 this works just fine (see screenshot attached). I tried this with the English Wikipedia search and FF3beta3.
And you have to wait a few seconds until the suggestions show up. It is not as fast as google's.

Maybe you could clarify this issue:

What search are you using? Also English Wikipedia or another country's?
Have you waited a few seconds for the suggestions to appear?

It says Wikipedia (EN), yes I have tried waiting.

Maybe it works if I re-install Firefox or something...

Btw: "Wikipedia topic" does not give suggestions, but "Wikipedia (English)" does. Maybe that's (the first one) what you have been using?

Did you dist-upgrade from gutsy or are you using a fresh install of hardy?

"Wikipedia topic" does not give suggestions.

Now I restored "Wikipedia (English)" and it gives suggestions! :)

Great! :)

I updated from Gutsy...

Perhaps this bug should be closed...

Well, seems to be a dist-upgrade problem then.
It is nice to know that it works for you now and that there is an easy workaround.

But in general a user upgrading from Gutsy should not have to install another search-"engine". I think this needs to be fixed.

So I am setting this Bug back to <New> until someone else confirms it.

BTW: Thanks for your info, Fred.

Yeah, try get someone else confirm it.

Maybe it was just me who was fault. Maybe I removed it by accident?
I don't know. Because I removed Yahoo!, Amazon, and eBay, and added Dictionary.
