Bug Description

First I would like to thank the developer (and anyone else involved) for this beautiful app.
It is probably not an issue with the app per se, maybe due to device limitations. I tried to add filters to photos captured by phone's camera (5888 x 3312 pixels, ~3 MB in size), the app crashed (once while importing the photo, once while applying filters, once while saving after applying a filter).
Device: E5, OTA-12, stable channel

An inbuilt image resizer would come in handy.

There's a feature request for gallery app: bug #1455594

Hi Anupam,

Glad you like the app! :)

Images are automatically resized to a maximum of 2048x2048px, so I guess it hasn't much to do with the size of the original image.

I've already seen this issue a couple of times during my tests, when the maximum picture size was 1080x1080, but I've never been able to recreate the circumstances of the crashes.

By the way, the Aquaris E5 has 1Gb of RAM and this is a big limitation for the device. For example, right now I'm listening to some music from my E5, using Spotify: free memory is 180MB. If I also launch the gallery, I have only 35MB free.

What makes pretty hard to debug this issue is that the OS seems to free memory very well. I've tried to editing a picture with InstantFX, while listening to some music from Spotify, and everything worked properly (free memory: 28MB).

For that reason I have to mark this report as "Incomplete" and ask you some further information, in order to understand (or try to, at least) which could be the reason of the crashes.

- How many applications were launched in background when you reproduced the issue?
- How much time since the last reboot of your phone?

Thank you again for reporting the issue!

By the way, I had a look at the bug report you linked in the description.

I believe that a forum (or a picture hosting service) should resize the image by themselves, if they force a specific size before uploading.

Since there are many services that could require a particular maximum size, I'm not sure whether InstantFX could satisfy all the possible sizes that a user may need, not without making the UI much more complex.
I'd like to keep the UI as simple as possible, since there are already a few platform limitations that breaks the user experience down (IMHO, of course).

All I can do is to provide some settings, and let the user set what she prefers as default size (e.g. between a range of 640px, 960px, 1080px, 1440px and 2048px).
As a side effect, it could also improve the general performance of the app when exporting an image to the gallery (it should potentially save about a second on a E5).

Please open a separate bug report for this feature request, so that it's easier for all of us to follow any discussion about this enhancement.

Thanks again!

@Stefano to answer your queries:
- I had 4-5 apps running in the background at that time (Notes, Messages, System Settings, Gallery etc.)
- It was less than 24 hours since the last reboot. I later rebooted the phone and opened InstantFX before anything else. That time the same photo was processed without a failure.
