Bug Description

I updated from Feisty via the recommended method. It only provided the -14 and -12 kernels and I can only use the -12 kernel. I've also tried a fresh install using the live CD and the Alternate install. Neither will get beyond the "loading the kernel stage". Strangely enough I was able to reinstall using the Gutsy Beta release. But after some 395 updates I still ended up with the same two kernels and the -14 does not work.
One error that comes up is "Cannot find /rev/...by/uuid". But it does exist.

AMD processor 3.06
1G memory
Nvidia 6200
2 hd's
Boot HD 20g, boot, home and swap partitions. 2nd hd 40g backup/and storage
No floppy, and it has been removed from the bios

Any thoughts? I want to use the -14 kernel so that I can use Virtualbox.

Thanks

Problem is solved by adding to the -14 boot option in Grub "all_generic_ide".

Error message was "cannot find /dev/disk/by uuid/.........."

Hi Tajreed,

I'm glad to hear you've got a workaround. I'm retargeting this bug towards the upcoming Hardy kernel and have tagged it as "hardy-kernel-candidate". However against the linux-source-2.6.22 package this is being marked as "Won't Fix" as it does not meet the criteria for a stable release update. To learn more about the stable release update process please refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates . Thanks!

Hardy Heron Alpha2 was recently released. It contains an updated version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha2 release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/alpha-2/ . You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. General information regarding the release can also be found here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/hardy/alpha2 . Thanks!

This bug has apparently been resolved as I was able to boot the Hardy Heron Alpha 2 Live Cd on my machine. Thanks for the good work.
