Bug Description

I wanted to convert an iso image into a bootable USB stick, so I've tried to install unetbootin. I've tried it on multiple machines with various ubuntu or debian versions.

I only get an empty grey window!

I've searched a lot on many forums. Many people have the problem. I found some stuff about policikit, but none of the workarounds discussed on the forums worked for me.

Whatever the problem (be it a bug or a lacking/broken dependency) you should either resolve it or remove totally the support for this tools, because an out-of-the-box install unetbootin is currently totally useless...

I finally found a (very inconvenient) workaround thanks to the guys @Arch:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=187234

sudo unetbootin &
(blank screen opens)

sudo QT_X11_NO_MITSHM=1 unetbootin
(new screen with correct display opens)

I can confirm, that this problem occured with the version of unetbootin (608-1) distributed with Ubuntu 17.10 as of today. Installing the latest unetbootin (657-1) from ppa:gezakovacs/ppa fixed the problem.

$ apt policy unetbootin

@dino99, are you planning to backport the fix to the Ubuntu 17.10 repository?

Downloaded RPM package for Fedora 29. When running Unetbootin from launcher it requests root password. Once password is provided and "OK" is clicked it simply exits.
If program is run from terminal using command "kdesu unetbootin" only a grey screen appears.
I have succesfully run the program using the following procedure:

1.Open Terminal window
2.Type command $ kdesu unetbootin
3.The grey window with title UNetbootin appears
4.Open NEW terminal window
5.Type command $sudo QT_X11_NO_MITSHM=1 unetbootin
6.Type my user password
7.Program runs correctly
