Bug Description

Hi, I have noticed that lately I can't receive any Telegram notification. Sometimes, the launcher icon has a green indicator of new messages, but they don't match the actual unread messages. In Settings->Notifications (settings app), I have all notification types activated for Telegram.

Is this something known? Thank you!

rc-proposed, BQ E4.5, telegram 2.2.30.0

I am seeing a similar behaviour of delayed notification on 3G network only for about last 2 weeks (https://lists.launchpad.net/ubuntu-phone/msg22057.html). On Wi-Fi notification works more or less fine.

The described bug sounds familiar. I am using Telegram with my BQ E4.5.

When my mobile is online via 2G/3G and I enter the settings menu, Telegram notifications were disabled. This is not instantly visible, as the notification slider is enabled. But you will not receive any notifications. After closing Telegram, starting it again and enter the settings menu the notification slider is disabled.

You can enable the notifications again, but you still wont receive any notifications. After closing and starting Telegram again you gets prompted when you enter the settings menu. The dialog ask you if you want to enable notifications by log into Ubuntu One.

After Selecting yes the notification slider changed to the enabled state, but again you will not receive any notifications. After closing and starting Telegram again you will start the cycle again with a disabled notification slider.

I can reproduce it with every try.

If you want notifications with a 2G connection than you have to connect to a WLAN. Enter the settings menu and enable notifications. It have worked if you can close Telegram and after a restart the notifications are still enabled. As long as you do not enter the settings menu when you are online via 2G/3G the Telegram notifications are working.

I hope that helps.

It looks like my workaround does not work 100%. During writing the comment I triggered the bug again and again. After it also with a WLAN connection I could not enable notifications. Luckily rebooting my mobile solved the problem. After it I could enable notifications over WLAN.

Also it looks like you do not need to close Telegram, just close the settings menu and enter it again is enough.

My Telegram version is 2.2.30.0

I am sorry:
The TextSecure push notifications is missing: https://github.com/janimo/textsecure-qml
And I found this Dekko bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1421923
