Looks like it's a logging issue - the client tests are seeing log messages from workers that they shouldn't be.

It is a logging issue, but we are having a hard time reproducing.

The tests that fail don't start an engine, and it is a worker in an engine that is failing.

All the tests that start engines appear to be stopping them correctly.
