Bug Description

New Ubuntu 16.04, when using i3 instead of the default window manager most of the icons are missing. see picture - https://cloud.githubusercontent.com/assets/6517/17843460/14034200-67e3-11e6-998e-88e2d5f37539.png

Also, I see this output in the terminal: '(unity-control-center:30149): WARNING **: Couldn't connect to accessibility bus: Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-C0aH1WkQr3: Connection refused'

I reported it to i3 (https://github.com/i3/i3/issues/2430) but I was told it's unity-control-center issue.

update: adding sudo solved it - 'sudo unity-control-center'. I see all the icons now. but I suspect it's not a good idea.

even with 'sudo' I see the following:

unity-control-center is meant to be used under unity, does it work better if you start it with XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity unity-control-center?

@Sebastien: Can this be because the u-c-c task at bug #1554878 wasn't fixed in Xenial?
