Bug Description
When I try printing to my Samsung ML-4500 parallel personal laser, nothing
happens. Running lpq freezes the entire box: the keyboard LEDs don't respond,
the mouse freezes, etc. Unfortunately, I don't have another box around to check
if it responds to the network.
It happens in X and logging in at a virtual console. It happens when printing
from OpenOffice and when running
lp /etc/hosts
lpq
It works fine in Fedora Core 3 on the same box. Speaking of which:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+: never been overclocked.
Asus A8N-SLI motherboard: NForce 4 chipset
PCI Radeon 9250, with the open source ati driver: no closed source modules allowed.
I'm on current Ubuntu 5.04: I don't have an earlier Ubuntu to check what
happened there.
I'm reporting as a kernel bug, because userspace should not be able to freeze
the entire system...
Thanks for your time!
Just compiled and installed kernel 2.6.11-ac6 from source. It's printing.
It's not perfect yet: text prints are off-centre, and I'm busy getting that
sorted. Once that's done, *when* I've got time, I'm going to see if I can
reproduce the hang on variations of Ubuntu's .config and source.
