Full Text Search... 50% // hangs here until a ^C
^C // hangs for about a second here
Segmentation fault (core dumped) // the result

Can reproduce in trusty, but works properly in yakkety:

$ apt search -theme
E: The value 'heme' is invalid for APT::Default-Release as such a release is not available in the sources

Note that you cannot search package names starting with a -, as that is a special character for starting single character options (like -t).
