When i activate desktop effects at Ubuntu 7.10, i loose the window borders, and only can close the windows using "File -> Close".

Does this happen every time you activate "desktop effects"?, please try to write in english because most of the people who read this reports doesn't understand portuguese.

You need to add the following to the Screen section of your xorg.conf file:

Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "true"
