Bug Description

#1504155 doesn't fully cover my issue as I get the error whether the "user data" box is checked or not. Here is the traceback:

An error occurred while creating the following hard link:

  /home/.sbuserdata/home/jwolosonovich/

 Reference file:

  /home/jwolosonovich/

.sbuserdata does not exist and never did (or at least I never created it) so that's probably why it can't find it. I have no restore points, this happened the first time I tried to run systemback after installing it.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Please try to start the Systemback with the following command:

DBGLEV=3 systemback-sustart

and try to create a new Live image. After the error, please show me the terminal output.

Changed in systemback:
status: New → Incomplete

Something's wrong because the Systemback try to create a new hard link with an empty file name. So missing a valid file name from the '/home/jwolosonovich/<file_name>'.
What is your filesystem under the /home?

mount | grep -e " / " -e " /home"

And please showe me your file list:

ls -la /home/jwolosonovich

What is your system and the Systemback version (systemback-cli -v)? I need to reproduce the problem before I try to fix it.

Unfortunately, I do not see anything unusual. I performed a few tests, but I cannot reproduce your problem.
If I create a direct error, like this:

   touch ~/.test
   sudo chattr +i ~/.test

I get the file name in the error output:

An error occurred while creating the following hard link:

     /home/.sbuserdata/home/kendek/.test

    Reference file:

     /home/kendek/.test

    /home/kendek/.test
     f rw-rw-r-- 1 1000 1000 2049 0B
   ...

So in your case the Systemback read an empty file name in your home directory, or the file information is damaged. But currently, I do not why. I do not find any related bug in the Systemback.
Maybe try to run an fsck check on your filesystem.
