Distorted desktop with no wallpaper

When I login to Loki, I get to see no wallpaper but completely distorted fragments of the login screen (see attachement). Also changing the wallpaper in switchboard does nothing. It might be an nvidia related problem but it never occured under Freya.

1. did you installed nvidia drivers? Or do you use default (bundled nouveau)?
2. what is model of your card?
3. if you can, log in into VT terminal (CTRL-ALT-F1)

Nouveau drivers (which you probably using) trying to be best as they can, but sadly without almost no effort from NVIDIA, they has to fix issues by trial and error method.

1) I use the nvdia driver 367.35
2) It's a GTX970
