Bug Description

Binary package hint: paman

I can't find stock_sound in the gnome-icon-theme. As far as I can see, it was removed at a certain point. audio-card was used by the writer in the first place.

I'm afraid its not very clear at all to me what is the problem (audio-card has been replaced by gnome-audio, which is in gnome-icon-theme).

In paman.desktop the icon is stock_sound, which isn't in gnome-icon-theme, so it should be audio-card or gnome-audio (but audio-card is in gnome-icon-theme in Gutsy)

I'm sorry, but I still don't understand what is stock_sound and what is the problem.
In the desktop file you have attached I see as icon audio-card; that's the desktop file from the source tarball.
During build that is patched and included in the .deb, therefore after install the desktop file uses the gnome-audio icon (which is in gnome-icon-theme)!?
To start with, can you tell us what version of paman you are talking about, and what version of ubuntu you are using?

stock_sound is the icon which is refered to in the packed desktop file. The problem is that when I install paman on my system it has no icon in the menu.
I use paman 0.9.3-1build2 in Gutsy and when I download the source I also get the desktop file with audio-card, but when I read the patch I see:
-Icon=audio-card
+Icon=stock_sound
So when I installed I get a dektop file with a stock_sound icon which does not exist (audio-card and gnome-audio indeed exist both in gnome-icon-theme), so I guess the patch should be:
-Icon=audio-card
+Icon=gnome-audio
and replace all stock_sound with gnome-audio but because gnome-audio is not in scalable I think that the original audio-card icon is also good or even better (?). I saw that on my system there is also no gtk-jump-to icon but there is the replaced go-jump icon, so the patch is rather useless (?) So maybe it is better to delete the 01_use_stock_g2.14_icons.dpatch file?

BTW: Thanks for taking the time for such a minor bug, I am not very experienced with patches and build processes, but I should have reported this bug with more information..

No problem, now I understand what is the problem (being thick headed doesn't help of course).
That patch has been corrected in hardy, and it is now correctly patching the desktop file with gnome-audio.
For gutsy, I don't think that this change its worth an SRU (the easiest work-around is to manually select the correct icon), perhaps the better is to ask for a backport:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports

See in particular "How to request new packages" and "Backport Process".

For the time being, I'm marking this as corrected in hardy, and confirmed in gutsy.
