Bug Description

elementary OS is joining the other OS' that have deprecated Ayatana, and is now making use of the FreeDesktop Actions spec in wingpanel. These new indicators have quite a bit more freedom compared to the current ones (can have any widget in them now), so that might be something for you to look out for. Ayatana indicators will still technically be supported with a plugin, but it would be nice to take advantage of the new features.

Hi,

Variety already supports a slew of desktop actions: Next, Previous, PauseResume, History, Preferences. You can disable the indicator icon if you wish in Preferences->Customize->Indicator Icon
