window decorations don't appear on windows

I was able to fix this issue by following all of the steps found at http://askubuntu.com/a/481620/176639

I believe something was corrupted while switching drivers. It's possible that the control center tool that does software updates and changes proprietary drivers hit some issue and was not able to do an atomic rollback. I am not sure what went wrong, however, since the workarounds I linked to above ended up removing a bunch of files.
