Bug Description

This is a feature for Ubuntu 16.10.

Recently, rear (Relax and Recover) is getting popular for OS image backup and we want to include it (as a package) in Ubuntu 16.10.

 From IBM point of view, there are a lot of customer which use Ubuntu, so it would be helpful for us if Ubuntu supports rear as well. It definitely introduces reducing the user's burden for OS backup.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1592063/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Packages are automatically synced from debian.

src:rear is available in Ubuntu https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rear

However due to https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=849303 it FTBFS on i386 and ppc64el, please fix that bug report with an upload to debian unstable.

For build failures in Ubuntu please see:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rear/1.19+dfsg-1

NB! Build-Depends-Indep are not installed, unless arch:all (amd64) packages are built. Either you need to configure arch-only build without documentation or move the asciidoc build-depends to just "Build-Depends" field.

Override can be done with something like this:
override_dh_auto_configure-arch:
    dh_auto_configure -- --build-no-docs

But I would rather just move asciidoc et.al. from Build-Depends-Indep to Build-Depends.

Hi Dimitri,

I just fixed it and provided an NMU with delay=5. So, I hope it show up in Ubuntu after that.

Thank you,
Breno

I think you do need to move all build-depends-indep to build-depends.... Now the build fails with:

> make[3]: xmlto: Command not found

To reproduce locally, you need to perform an arch-any build only, without building arch all packages. Like so:

# if you have not used sbuild before
$ mk-sbuild zesty

# Rebuild¸ arch-any packages only
$ pull-lp-source rear
$ sbuild --no-arch-all -d zesty rear_2.00+dfsg-1.dsc

Hi Dmitri,
the fix was in the pipe at the moment when you wrote this.
This should be fixed : https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=rear
Sorry for that and thanks for taking time to explain,

F.
