Bug Description

Binary package hint: gv

If I open any file in gv (ps or pdf) then it appears to be compressed vertically.

For example, see the attached screenshot for the output of

$ gv /usr/share/doc/texlive-pstricks/latex/pdftricks/test.pdf

I forgot to mention that this problem was not present in Feisty, but appeared following an upgrade to Gutsy.

I am the GNU gv upstream maintainer and not related with Ubuntu at all.

Please try the following "workaround":

Go to "State - Setup Options". There you'll find "Screen size (mm)". Double the first value. On my setup, I change it from "332 x 212" to "664 x 212". Report me your results. Have you two displays connected to your PC? Normal displays or widescreen? Which resolution?

Then test halving the second value and reseting the first to the unmodified value. In my example, that would be "332 x 106". Please report me your results for that test, too.

I think one of the two mentioned modifications should resolve your problem. In this case, save your settings by the "save" button.

Hi, I encountered the aspect ratio problem when running a virtual console (2560x800) larger than the physical screen (1280x800). (In my case, the off-screen portion is mapped to the VGA port.) For gv, increasing the screen size under State -> Setup Options worked.

Thank you for your reporting this bug.

Could you please start gv from a terminal window by "gv --debug" and report the complete output? That will only be 3 lines or so.

Sorry, I just saw that Jaunty is delivered with a too old version of GNU gv. "gv --debug" will not work. One version of GNU gv newer and it may work.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The package your reporting is updated and the issue should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD development release - Maverick Meerkat. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
