Bug Description

I recently upgraded from Firefox 2.0.0.6 (or 7 or something) to 0.8
Ever since, whenever I am in a text box (like this one) Firefox will crash / close
unexpectedly. I noticed it first at t-mobile.com/messaging site... and notice it
would happen when I pressed a space bar after typing a word... it would crap out.
what is weird... if I start with a space as the beginning character, it would be good
until I typed a letter or whatever. then a space, it would crash.... NO error messages
at all... Occationally, doing a google search will do it too (or random google results).
I think I am using Ubuntu Gutsy...

(I am a newbie, and usually click, ya. upgrade this or that, when the upgrade wizzard says
something is there...)...

I did try to remove Firefox and even rebooted...
went back and re-installed it and it still freaking craps out on me...

assistance would greatly be appreciated...

I like Opera and all... but for linux. I got accustomed to Firefox again...

please resubmit the crash report you find in /var/crash clicking on the .crash file you should find there. This should open the crash report submission tool shipped by ubuntu and will provide us with valuable information to work on your crash. Thanks for your contribution.

I went in and checked the /var/crash directory... when I did ls...
I seen few files... ones dealing with my gpddrive (trying to play with that too after
basically giving up with firefox). but nothing that says firefox in the file names...

at least I am learning :-)

In any case ... we will update to firefox 2.0.0.9 soon which fixes a
few regressions introduced by 2.0.0.8 ... among those are some
crashes. Lets hope that this gets fixed for you as well.

I know this is a very old post, but I'm having the same problem, it's also the problem as described here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3938155
http://www.thescripts.com/forum/thread618077.html

It basically happens whenever I type a space in a textbox when running my Ubuntu. Also, if I type something in that doesn't include a space, it will crash when I submit the form relating to that text box. I've tried reinstalling and it's still the same problem. It's firefox 2.0.0.11 and it's Ubuntu-Fiesty. I also haven't installed any add ons or extensions to firefox. There's also nothing in the crash folder (it's just empty). Basically firefox just closes when it encounters this problem... It's ubuntu 7.10 and it says Gutsy, but in firefox it says Fiesty. As you can tell I'm a n00b :)

I know how I got mine resolved... it was spell check. I forget how I determained it...
I had to go into preferances and goto advanced and uncheck spell check. NOT sure why it was failing.
I just turned it back on and it crashed with it on. so I turned it back off again...

good luck.

I ran firefox from a terminal screen
and when it crashed (since I never did get a crash report in my /var/crash)
it said... /usr/lib/firefox/firefox-bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/firefox/components/libmyspell.so: undefined symbol: _ZN8Hunspell5spellEPKc

so, I do not know...

LonelyDragon, you're a genius, it's working now! I just disabled spell checker and now it's all good. Thank you for your suggestion, and it completely makes sense, as spell checker would only be activated when a space is typed. Thanks for your speedy reply!

I can confirm this bug, though my version of firefox is listed as 2.0.0.11+1nobinonly-0ubuntu0.7.4. I get the same error when I try to edit something: /usr/lib/firefox/firefox-bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/firefox/components/libmyspell.so: undefined symbol: _ZN8Hunspell5spellEPKc

I disabled spellcheck and things seem to be working for now, though that obviously is not a fix to the problem.
