Bug Description

I am not sure why I am actually reporting this as its an issue which I have had ever since I switched over to Ubuntu almost a year ago....I use a Borther DSP 115 in conjunction with my Ubuntu box, and up until now it has worked with every release of Ubuntu (albeit with a little work and help from the Ubuntu forum), I recently did a clean install of Gutsy; and to my complete amazement Gutsy not only recognised my printer, but also recommended a driver for it...problem solved all hail Gutsy..

Unfortunately life isn't so simple, and my trusting nature soon found out whilst today attempting to print a doc nothing happens, and by nothing I truly mean no print, no errors, no ...nothing!

My printer claims to receive data, I can see this on the printer display whilst sending a print job..however my trusty Brother DCP 115 doesnt spit anything out...I am a little frustrated at this as I really thought that this release of Ubuntu had put an end to my printer woes...

Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.....

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in cupsys.

Appears to be a problem with the plug 'n print detection, which driver was incorrectly recommended for your printer?

The brother-cups-wrapper-extra package that support this printer has been included into the Ubuntu multiverse repository since Hardy.

Only manual installation of the above package is possible at this moment, for automatic installation of the printer driver this bug still needs to be solved: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jockey/+bug/234822

Gutsy is no longer supported an the requested information has not been provided, therefore we are closing this bug report.
Please upgrade to Hardy or newer.

Printers being automatically set up with the wrong driver has been fixed since jaunty, which shows the printer configuration tool system-
config-printer if no exact driver matches to let the user manually select a driver.
