Bug Description

The touchpad of my laptop sometimes doesn't work at all (from boot to halt). I am unable to determine when exactly this happens. The touchpad worked correctly on the live CD version of Ubuntu. My external USB mouse works correctly.

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.6 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

I added the tag "kernel-bug-exists-upstream". To answer your questions:

(1) The problem has always existed - on Ubuntu 12.04, 14.04 and 16.04.
(2) The new kernel (4.6) doesn't appear to make any difference.

Félix, could you please provide the full computer model as noted on the sticker of the computer itself (not from the Bug Description)?

The exact model is "P25K-W8", this one <http://www.gigabyte.fr/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4635>. Does this information suffice?

Felix, thanks for that.

To keep this relevant to upstream, please continue to test the latest mainline kernel as it comes out (now 4.8-rc3). Could you please advise?
