Bug Description

Right after boot up I receive an internal error, "failed to initialize HAL!".

This occurred immediately after upgrading to Ubunto 7.10

My CD reader/writer and DVD reader and my combo CD/DVD reader writer are not recognized.
My external hard drive no longer mounts.
If I try to view System-->Preferences-->Hardware Information, a window tries to pop-up and then quicly disappears.

After reinstalling some HAL components That I found in Sunaptic Package Manager, (I thought that might help), I received the following errors:

E: hal: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
E: hal-cups-utils: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
E: hal-device-manager: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

Also, after clicking the icon to shutdown/restart/......, my system halts for a while before the options appear.

I do not know if this is HAL related but also occurred immediately after upgrading to Ubantu 7.10.

I had to manually reconfigue my network connectivity to connect with the internet. After doing so and connecting, I am still unable to get Evolution to connect to my mail.

Once again, all these problems occurred immediately after upgrading to Ubantu 7.10.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in hal.

Hello Mario,

I am new to Linux and Launchpad. At times it is not clear to me exactly
what info I have to provide. I had to many problems and am not
concerned with the HAL issue right now so I guess the bug should be
closed on my end (unless someone wants to look at the info I provided if
it can help anyone else).

Can you tell me if more info is needed for this current problemI have?
Open Question #16619

Thanks,
Larry

Can you check if it is not related to bug #149881 ?

It seems to be causing lots of trouble, mainly on multicore systems

I am new to this stuff and trying to get the feel of it. Sounds like it may be related but I still would not know how to resolve it. I ultimately got around it by reinstalling Ubuntu and I currently have the problem below (Evolution does not open). I put it in as a question and received no replies after a couple days. It is looking that I should report it as a bug and maybe someone will help.

Should the "Status" or "Importance be changed on this since it appears it is being addressed by

Well, up to now, no one here have said that "Setting the /etc/init.d/rc back to "concurrency=none" fixed the issue."
