Bug Description

Since I have been using Thunderbird version 1:38.7.2+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 on Xenial, I can observe it crashing (seemingly) randomly while idle or while busy, resulting in the platform-independent Mozilla crash dialogue window.

I don't know if this is related to Xenial or to internal changes at Mozilla.

The bug still persist with Thunderbird 45.0.4 under Xubuntu Xenial. I tried to restart with all add-on off, but it still crashes.

Now using Firefox 49.0.2 and Thunderbird 1:45.4.0 in Ubuntu Mate 16.04. Thunderbird does not crash at all any more. Firefox crashes at idle 2-3 times per month. This is a big improvement.

I upgraded for different reasons to Xubuntu 17.10. These symptoms are gone in 17.10, at least, for me (author of this bug report).

Thanks for that information Richard.

Is anyone else still seeing a problem on Ubuntu 16.04 with the current versions of Firefox and Thunderbird which are 63.0.3 and 60.2.1 respectively?
