Bug Description

This has been a problem since version 12.04 and earlier. I cannot believe it has not been fixed yet.

When using an nvidia card such as a gtx750 TI and booting from a standard Desktop LTS version DVD, the screen will go blank and not display splash or anything after the grub menu.

I am using 2 monitors, 1 DVI-D, 1 DP. Both capable of resolutions beyond 1920x1080. However the combination of using one or both makes no difference until the restricted / additional nvidia drivers are installed.

Before then, you MUST set nomodeset in the boot options.

This makes installation for new users, laptops, etc, very difficult in several hardware instances.

Suggestion: Turn nomodeset on either by default, or as an additional boot option in the grub menu for users called "Safe Graphics Mode".
