Bug Description

Hi,

I downloaded a new cube-server version and after having created a project from my Ubuntu 16.04 machine, I tired to download the repositories or a new package from the MS Windows computer. Unfortunately, the application crashes all the time before completing the action (and even though the progress bar shows that some download is performed.

I am attaching a print screen of the command prompt with the error message.

It may help to specify that the internet connection is somehow slow and pass through a VPN.

Thanks,
Pierre

Hello, thank you for sending your problem.
Unfortunately, we haven't tested it yet on projects created using the latest Ubuntu 16.04. We still don't have any test machines as of the moment.

Could you try to download the repositories only? Are repositories successfully downloaded?
Could you also try to download single package and check if it successfully downloaded also?
Could you send us also the screenshot of the download progress in the web browser?

Hi,

Thanks for your response. I did try again, this time with the corporate windows machine, running windows and from an open connection (i.e. private connection in a residence, not controlled through VPN). Results: the same: cube-server seems to start downloading, then crash.

Then I tried booting the computer on Live Ubuntu-Mate (16.04) and running the cube-server from the live session. This time, the repositories update for my Ubuntu 16.04 machine worked perfectly and I am currently downloading a package.

My conclusion is that the problem comes at least from the Windows system restrictions. I am not admin on it and when launching cube-server, it ask from firewall authorization, but does not accept my windows user password.

Now I wonder why would I need such special firewall settings if otherwise, I can browse the Internet from my windows maching without particular restriction? Are the repos not available from https?

Cheers,
Pierre

Beside I want to say that this cube-server software is simply wonderful. I have been working for years in Africa and the lack of good Internet connection has always been an obstacle when promoting GNU/Linux.

Hello again, and thank you for the response :D I really appreciate your feedback and inspires us more to continue the development of this application. I am really happy to know that this app helped you with your problem.

For the Windows problem, currently, we are using a Linux based programming language called 'Vala'. We are having some difficulties with porting the application to Windows, and we think, the said programming language is not yet ready to fully support Windows. We are also receiving some problems to other users using Windows. Fortunately, some of them also did not encounter the problems you had.

With regards to firewall authorization, I think, Windows always ask for that if an application is a 'Server' application, since a server application (like our app) needs to establish a network internally in order for you to access it to your web browser.

Thank you again for using Cube and for your sending us your problem, with your analysis. This will help a lot in our investigation. We will do our best to fix all reported problems to release a more stable and bug-free application.
