Bug Description

0.52+git20160118-1

Irssi cannot load the plugin. It says:

-!- Irssi: Error loading module xmpp/core: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/irssi/modules/libxmpp_core.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

If I copy the *.so files to the named directory it says:

-!- Irssi: xmpp/core is ABI version 0 but Irssi is version 2, cannot load

So this package is completly useless :-(

This is not good, it means irssi-plugin-xmpp in Xenial is completely broken, due to a newer irssi, which

a) should have required a rebuild to fix the ABI mismatch, but unfortunately we haven't tied this down to properly versioned package dependencies yet

b) expects plugins in a different directory (which includes the multiarch triplet "x86_64-linux-gnu" in the path)

In Debian, this was tracked as #817171, and fixed by 0.52+git20160118-2

For Ubuntu Xenial, I've requested a sync (LP: 1579925), hopefully that's possible. I suppose that Yakkety is not affected.

Can you please have a look at the sync bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/irssi-plugin-xmpp/+bug/1579925 and test and report back on the fixed package, as Martin Pitt asks?

I think the binary .deb is built now, it's a few clicks from the page he references but I think the amd64 version is available from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/xenial/amd64/irssi-plugin-xmpp/0.52+git20160118-2~ubuntu16.04.1, or directly as http://launchpadlibrarian.net/259300661/irssi-plugin-xmpp_0.52+git20160118-2~ubuntu16.04.1_amd64.deb

The package from Martin works for me, Irssi can load and use it without problems.

According to LP: 1579925, a fixed package is now available in xenial-updates (and xenial-proposed, which will hopefully be moved into xenial for the first point release), so I'm marking this bug "Fix Released"

Changed in irssi-plugin-xmpp (Ubuntu):
