I could successfully upgrade kernel on single box setup with juno mainline build 2730. Take a look at 10.84.14.5
For R.3.0, fab command wont bring to 83 kernel. But You can upgarde to 83 using "apt get install <pkg-name>, package is available on target at local cache @ /opt/contrail/contrail_install_repo. But for that git review needs to be merged..
