Exiting fullscreen in applications utilizing opengl freezes entire screen

Bug Description

Whenever I exit full screen in mpv (and presumably other applications with an opengl context) I find myself with a frozen screen I cannot interact with, and need to switch to another TTY to restart Unity or lightdm.

Seems as though this has already been fixed in newer versions of xorg, so its just a matter of backporting them to whatever shipped with 16.04.

Here's a patch that's already been accepted "upstream" (not sure if I'm using that right):
