Bug Description

While using Banshee, i noticed that it has a problem with song tags. So i did a little test, i changed the tags of a song, copied it's file to another location, and played it with another music player, and the song tags were the same, nothing seems to have changed when i chnaged the song information in Banshee. This leads me to believe that Banshee is not writing the tags to the file, although i had already checked the option to "write metadata to files" as the player said. Could someone look into this please ?!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in banshee.

I'm confirming this bug. Banshee is not writing the tags to the MP3 files.

Well, post back if you can pinpoint this as a Banshee-specific bug.

I do believe the functionality hasn't been added to SVN trunk yet, and in
general bugs shouldn't be reported at all on the development version until
it's available in Ubuntu.

This bug has been fixed upstream and I can confirm that writing metadata to files indeeed does work now.

I am using the banshee-1 package from the Banshee Team's PPA. https://edge.launchpad.net/~banshee-team/+archive

I am closing this bug now. Thanks for all your help!

This bug should remain open until someone can confirm that the package included in Intrepid works as well. It's probably a semantic difference, but a worthwhile one.

In Intrepid, whilst this is fixed for MP3 tag editing it is not for OGG tag editing. Please can someone confirm if this is an upstream issue or not, so I know whether to report upstream.

This is an upstream bug, as indicated: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476366. That bug was fixed, and should be fixed in Banshee-1 as well (which is available in Intrepid). Marking this as fixed. If you're having another issue, please file a new bug, as it will be perhaps related but not affecting everyone already subscribed to this bug.

I have the same problem : i write the tag but i don´t have the changes in the mp3 ( or mp4) file.
I checked the flag in the preferences.
I found the only way for committing changes is open banshee, DON´T listening to any song and do the changes to tags.

this seems to me pretty weird

ps.: i work on a 8.10 ubuntu with banshee core 1.2.1.17586

I´m using the banshee version installed via apt-get and i already checked it works.
Did you remember to check the enable on the "write meta-data" tag? I post my screen-shot for you

bye
