Bug Description

After waking my laptop running Xenial after it having been suspended, a lot of applications (e.g. Terminal and all settings) does not render most of the text that should be there. Some of it shows up on mouseover, but most is just permanently invisible until reboot of system.

Updated BIOS (sorry about not having it updated prior to bug report):

hbldh@Nedomkull:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
UX301LAA.211

The computer ran fine for some days without any indication of recurrence of the problem, but just now I encountered it again. This is pretty much the same frequency as before. It does not happen at every suspension; just closing the lid of the laptop and opening it again does reproduce the error.

Unity menus, settings boxes and my Java-based Python IDE PyCharm are examples of applications that display the problem: Chromium on the other hand was not affected.

Bug occurs after resuming from suspend.

I shut the lid, which is set to suspend on close.
Resume is triggered by lifting the lid.

The bug seems to only occur after prolonged suspend states (e.g. being suspended from morning to afternoon).

Had run the tasks 4-10 at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend this morning and had suspended it to finish collecting the data in the afternoon. Encountered the bug at resume and ran

    sudo sh -c "sync && echo 1 > /sys/power/pm_trace && pm-suspend"

once and then saved all files according to the 11-12 and dmesg.

Henrik Blidh, to clarify, did this issue not occur in a Ubuntu release prior to 16.04?

I had Ubuntu Desktop 15.10 installed on the laptop prior to 16.04, and upgraded using the update-manager. I did not have this problem before.

Henrik Blidh, to further root cause, if you boot into a 4.2.x kernel (the one from Ubuntu 15.10) does the issue go away?

How would I go about testing that if I have cleared all old linux-header packages away? Cannot find a suitable apt-package to do this with (apt-get install linux-image-4.2.0-35-generic says that the package is not available).
