Bug Description

Binary package hint: gedit

I was testing the "pi" package in Ubuntu Gutsy (current to the repositories as of Oct. 26, 2007).
The command "pi 1000000 > pi-1M.txt" output the first million digits of pi to a text file, which I then wanted to inspect via gedit (version 2.20.1-0ubuntu3).

The result was rather bizarre, as if one were typing on a typewriter and then typed over the same line again.
The result did not change even if "Do not split words over two lines" in the preferences is checked or not.

I've a similar problem with exactly the same symptoms. In my case it was a 26mb MySQL dump with some extremely long lines that appeared to be typed over each other. On top of that, gedit is painfully slow in dealing with large text files. Sometimes taking minutes to respond to input.

I believe that this is a regression as similar behaviour was either fixed in Feisty or fixed from Dapper to Feisty.

Could you please tell us where so that we can subscribe to that bug instead? Also, why was this not marked as a duplicate then?

it's not marked duplicate because looking for the exact number of the hundred of duplicates sent every week would take hours and I think it's better use of those hours to work on bugs rather than looking at numbers
